5# Students committing suicide? Or are they murdered!!!

Hey Friends,

Last night I  was while I was watching tv, I came across a very interesting show ‘Gumrah- End of Innocence’ on Channel V. The episode that they were showing was focused on, how students suicide due to pressure in their teen years. That episode and the show touched me deeply, it made realize that it is true that many student are pressured a lot by their family, teachers, society etc. Students gets so frustrated that with all this that they are left no other option rather than to give their lives. Before I start to discus on this matter, I would like to share a story.

*Name of the characters are changed in order to protect person’s  identity

 Story:

This is story about a boy named Varun Raj* from a small city, he’s in class 12th right now from the commerce stream. He has a girlfriend named Ritika Singh* who is also his classmate. They have been in a relationship for past 4 years. Their final examinations are near and everybody is rushing in order to apply for various college. Ritika, his girlfriend is brilliant student and wants to go to metropolis. However Varun is a weak student and on a way to take up his father’s textile business, he does want Ritika to leave for metropolis.

A lot of arguments took place between them, Ritika told him that she can’t stay their and ruin her life as her father doesn't run any kind of business that she can takeover. She also told him that they can have a long-distance relationship, but Varun’s friend filled his mind with nonsense stuffs and this made him very depressed.

Ritika asked Varun to join the same college with some donation or to work hard in order to get high percentage and join the college with merit. Varun promised that he will work hard. Though he promised Ritika, he knew that he can’t get high percentage, so asked his spoiled friends to give him suggestion. They told him to meet Muhammad Arif*, a person who leaks board papers. Varun fixed a meeting and asked for the papers, Arif agreed to give him the papers for Rs. 15000. Varun was all messed up and wasn't able to think how would he manage such a large amount, so he stole his mother’s gold earings while she was asleep and exchanged it for the papers.

On the day of exam he was very happy, as he had all questions with him and now he can easily score high. He started to dream himself with Ritika at the metropolis. But at the exam, the question paper was totally different, non of the question matched, he was fooled by Arif. All at once all his dreams were shattered in front of his eyes. Tears came out of the corner of his eyes. He stole from his own house. He was not able to face himself. He ruined his parents reputation. There was no college in the nation for the weaker students and they can pursue some other lesser known careers because of the society.

All at once he was totally depressed and was left with no other option, he came in front of a running train and gave up his life.

So Why Does This Happen?

Well, one of the reason is that, most of the parents forces their children to pursue a particular career that they might not be interested in or doesn't have the ability to do it. Everyone of us have a this particular statement in every lecture that we might have heard from our adults- “You can score like your class toppers if you work hard”. You heard it right? Of course you have, and according to me that’s complete nonsense.Everybody has their own personnel field of interest, if you notice a child who is interested in English will focus and never bunk any English period, but he would definetly bunk the periods in which he/she is not interested. Parents should try to understand their child’s interest rather than forcing him/her to careers that will ruin their lives.

Another reason is, many students especially the boys falls in a bad company of friends. Due all this many teenagers gets addicted to drinking, smoking and often starts taking drugs. Now that’s dangerous. These teenagers starts stealing money from their own house in order to but drugs and other rubbish stuffs. They often engage in fights, they beat their parents and many more things. Due to all this they lose their closest friends, family members also give up on these kind of teens and the most important of all , nobody trusts you anymore. And all this leads to frustration and that leads to suicide…

What can be Done?

Parents should take care of their children very patiently as all the relations hangs on a very thin thread which can break with the burden of tension in the relationships. This for the parents, observe that what your child loves to do the most. If he is good in sports, then make him to join a good sports clubs. If you reading this post right now then according to me you are totally capable of sending your children to join some good sports clubs for high quality training as most of them are considerably cheap. If Lionel Messi would have not joined Football Club Barcelona (in Spain), he would most probably being playing in some low class team in Argentina. What I meant was, if you child has the talent then don’t waste it, do whatever you can do in order to helping him/her in becoming a successful person. If a person is happy then he will never ever attempt a suicide.

Below are the few change in behavior before a child attempts suicide:

-       - They becomes very frustated and gets furious on very little matters.
-       - They often talks about topics like suicide and death.
-       - Change in sleeping pattern.
-       - Often lost in themselves.
-       - Looks very unhappy and smiles very less.

If you see these things in your child, then the best advice according to me is to sit and talk with them. Don’t put pressure on them, don’t force them to do something if they don’t want it to do, try not to scold or raise hands on them and most importantly, trust them.

Final Words.

For Students: Be very selective while choosing friends, avoid bad company. Even if your friends are addicted to something, you can still hold your ground. Share your feelings with your parents, siblings, friends or your loved ones.

For Parents: Just one thing, I know every parents care about your children a lot but let them choose their path. You have lived your life your way, now trust your child and let him live their own.

People say that those who suicides are fools and coward. Wrong, wrong and wrong again. They are neither fools nor coward, they are just fed up of their lives due unwanted pressure for which they are not yet mentally ready. So is this suicide or murder? What do you think?

Thanks for reading and take care,
